The first day of the Cactus baseball tour began at Maryvale Park . This is the spring training site of the Brewers. In town, was the split squad of the S.F. Giants. On the mound to start the game was Dave Bush for the Brewers and Tim Lincecum for the Giants.
I’d say in watching Lincecum pitch in warmups, he throws kind of hard. It was not his best day out there, but he picks up the win. The star hitter of the game had to be Billy Hall who took of from where he left of last season with a bomb and two runs scored. It was Counsel playing the hot corner in what could be taking over Hall’s role from last year where he can play any of the infield positions just about. Counsel has this wierd approach when he is at the bat raising the bat quite high in the air when he is in the ready position.
Lance Niekro had a strong day as he is battling to hold down the 1st base position. Klesko seems to already gone down. What a surprise? Rich Aurilia played just like his former self back at the SS position. But, I could see him taking the role that Nomar has in L.A. playing a lot of positions.

Great article David. When I owned a team, I always wanted to have a writer of your style publish stories so that the public would appreciate all of the work my players put into each game. I’ll be finishing up this job in about two years, and I was thinking of buying another team. Perhaps you could write some articles for us at that time.
Best Regards,
George W.
